Hife launches advance ticket sales to watch the total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026
On August 12, 2026, Catalonia will be the stage for an exceptional astronomical phenomenon: a total solar eclipse, fully visible in the Terres de l’Ebre. This unique event, which occurs only once a century, is expected to attract tens of thousands of spectators from across the region.
The Government of Catalonia, through the Department of Research and Universities, has identified 20 municipalities and 27 optimal observation points across Camp de Tarragona, Terres de l’Ebre and Ponent. These locations offer the best visibility of the phenomenon, adequate capacity and appropriate safety measures. Nevertheless, the Government anticipates a massive influx of visitors and is considering road access restrictions if the estimated capacity of 85,000 people and 40,000 vehicles is exceeded.
To ensure smooth mobility and prevent congestion, HIFE has launched advance ticket sales along with a special transport plan with reinforced services to the municipalities with the best visibility. Starting this week, all departures are available for advance booking, allowing passengers to secure their seats in advance.
One of the key elements of the plan is the reinforcement of the Barcelona – Terres de l’Ebre route, with 20 daily departures in each direction, as Barcelona is expected to generate the highest number of trips. At the same time, services from Valencia will also be increased, as well as departures from Tarragona, Castellón, Vila-real, Benicàssim, Oropesa and Peñíscola, helping to ensure balanced territorial distribution and reduce private traffic.
According to Jose Maria Chavarría, CEO of HIFE, “our goal is to ensure that everyone who wishes to witness this once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon can do so comfortably, calmly and in complete safety. Advance sales allow us to plan the necessary reinforcements and ensure that no one is left without reaching the observation area.”
This eclipse will not be fully visible again in Catalonia for at least another 100 years. For this reason, HIFE recommends booking early to guarantee a seat, avoid congestion and reach the designated observation points safely without the need for a private vehicle.
