Hife takes over the urban bus service in Valls with new hybrid vehicles and no changes to the service.
The Valls City Council and the company HIFE presented this Thursday the change in the management of the urban bus service, which as of May 2 will be operated by the company. The event, held at the Bus Station, also served to present the new vehicles that will be incorporated into the service.
The presentation included speeches by the mayor of Valls, Dolors Farré; the CEO of HIFE, José María Chavarría; the manager of Forbus, Ludovic Forés; and the Councillor for Mobility, Pau Tondo.
The change of operator, previously managed by Forbus, will take place without affecting users. The current lines —L1, L2 and the extension to the industrial estate— will be maintained, as well as schedules and stops, with minor adjustments due to construction works in the city. School-time reinforcements and free public transport will also be maintained.
This new phase begins with the aim of consolidating the current service and moving towards a more efficient and sustainable mobility model. In this regard, HIFE noted that it has been present in Valls for many years with the regular line connecting the town with Bràfim. Furthermore, in 2024 it incorporated the company Autocars Cabré of Valls into its business group to manage local discretionary services, highlighting the work of the head of this base, Mr. Ivan Cabré.
From May 2, two 10.5-metre Iveco Low Entry hybrid buses will be introduced, equipped with ramps for people with reduced mobility. The vehicles, with a capacity of 74 passengers (seated and standing), feature low-emission technology, which will reduce the environmental impact of the service and improve operational efficiency.
The service will continue to operate from Monday to Friday and on Saturday mornings, with no service on Sundays or public holidays, maintaining current city coverage. The transition will be carried out by integrating the existing operations, ensuring service continuity without interruptions in this new stage of urban transport in Valls.
The mayor of Valls, Dolors Farré, highlighted the steady increase in urban transport passengers, especially since the City Council approved free fares in 2020. In 2025, the service reached a historic high of 232,000 viajeros, more than double the number of passengers before free public transport was introduced six years ago.
In this sense, Farré emphasized the City Council’s commitment to urban public transport to move towards a city with better mobility and greater sustainability
